This is Tamiya 1/20 Tyrrell P34 1977 Monaco GP Scale Model Car Kit. In September 1975, at the Heathrow Hotel in London, crowds of people clustered around the presentation of Team Tyrrell's new machine and gazed in awe at what lay before them. This machine, designed by Derek Garden and referred to as "Project 34", featured 6 wheels and employed a Ford Cosworth DFV engine. As two large front wheels on an F1 machine become sources of lift and drag, the concept of the Tyrrell P34 was to employ 4 small front tires for heightened aerodynamic performance. Having a total of 6 tires also ensured more road-to-tire contactarea for better cornering and braking performance. The Tyrrell P34 "Six Wheeler" made its race debut in the 1976 Spain GP. Drivers J. Scheckter and P.Depailler took a one-two finish at the Sweden Grand Prix. Scheckter completed the season ranking 3rd place in the Drivers' standing, while Tyrrell took 3rd place in the Constructors' standings. The 1977 season marked a change in drivers from Scheckter to Ronnie Peterson, as well as a change in the main sponser from ELF to First National City bank. Although a change in cowling design to full-engine cowling was made, the half-engine cowling was re-employed at Spain, Monaco, and Belgium for performance comparison. Despite the fact that a tire war with Michelin forced Goodyear to neglect development on the Tyrrell P34's front wheels, Depailler finished 3rd at Japan and South Africa, and came in 2nd at the Canada GP. Peterson finished 3rd at Belgium. The Tyrrell P34 was to go down in pages of F1 hhistory as the first and the last six-wheel F1 machine.
