I bought this Slash 4X4 LCG Platinum Edition so I can bash around in off road terrain. I've driven it on grass, dirt, road, mulch, and gravel and this thing can handle all those quite easily. I've owned it for 5 months.
Handling is very controllable out of the box thanks to the LCG, sway bars and GTR shocks, so much that I can drive it at speed in reverse without great difficulty. Suspension is very soft, and I turned the collars on the shocks to stiffen it up slightly. GTR shocks are of great quality.
Don't worry about the low center of gravity chassis getting hung up on things, unless you're trying to crawl over tree roots and rocks.
Speed running on 2s Lipo is about 40kph using stock 13t pinion. Also included is a 18t Pinion for better top speed. Top speed with 18t on 2s is 50-55kmh. Acceleration with 2s Lipo is very fast, but it still can't do wheelies. (Wasnt designed to do wheelies anyways).
Durability is incredible so far. I crash head on into a tree at 30kph and nothing broke, I just heard a loud thud. I've done multiple cartwheels, roll overs, small jumps and nothing is showing any sign of wear.
The only exception is when I hit this plank of wood sticking out of the ground, and snapped a front lower arm. Although it was a freak accident.
Temperatures on the motor and ESC running 2s Lipo for 20 minutes straight only gets "warm". You can put your finger on them indefinitely.
Comes with clear unpainted body. I highly suggest using Tamiya paint for polycarbonates for great results.
Parts availability is abundant, RCMart stocks a wealth of hop ups and spares for the slash.
I recommend getting front proline lower arms, they are known to break first.
Running the slash 4x4 on 3s Lipo will quickly snap the axles so get some mip axles for it which I bought here too.
Very easy to work on too.
One annoying thing is that the stock VXL ESC is that it activates lipo cut off too early, 3.7v per cell and you can't program it.
If your looking for a basher with great handling, durability, parts availablility, and ease of use, I recommend the traxxas Slash 4x4. If you already have radio gear and battery, get the platinum edition to save some money!
