I really like this kit. It is a great value for the price and if set up properly it will not disappoint. I currently have three other Tamiya models; TT01R type E, an XV-01 rally, and TB-02 drift. I currently use the TT-02 as my rally car and surprisingly I like it just as much as the XV-01. I run the TT-02 every weekday on tarmac and off road (mud, sand, dirt, slush, snow, rain, etc.) on the weekends and so far I haven't had ANY bits of sand caught up in the spur gear or drive train. Below I will list some other pros and cons.
Very easy to work on and assemble
Can handle brushless with 2s/3s Lipo (Hobbywing ESC)
Can handle scale rally jumps
Is a great rally car
The stock steering has slop, and is very basic with no adjustability
The stock shocks are basic as well
What I purchased in addition and use on this kit
Full ball bearing set
aluminum shaft set
aluminum motor plate
Hobbywing 80a esc
3900kv brushless motor
Oil filled shocks
Misc notes: I would recommend buying aluminum front knuckles if you plan on running it scale rally with jumps. And the stock tires perform very well in the rain and mud.
