The final stop on the EFRA Summer Tour for 2013 takes us to Austria. The 1/10th IC TC Euros is hotly anticipated, after a topsy-turvey event in 2012 saw many of the favourites fail to make the main final, and then most of the remaining ones make big mistakes in the long main final.
What will 2013′s event bring? Read on for the RC TV Race Preview to get an idea of what we think might happen!
Stohr Ring, Kirchberg, Austria
The famed Stohr Ring hosts this year’s EFRA 1/10th IC Track Euros. The track has held many high-calibre meetings in the past, including a number of Euro’s in different classes, and the IFMAR World Championship in 2000 for the 235mm on-road class, the predecessor to the current 1/10th 20mm chassis. Well known by many of the racers and well-used thanks to it’s fairly central location between the nitro homelands of Italy and Germany, the club and Austrian Federation certainly know how to host big events. The track was recently ‘polished’ in the preparations for this year’s racing events, which drivers at the recent ENS meeting found to the increase in tire wear on this high speed circuit.
The Defending Champion
Huber was probably a surprise winner of last year’s events. Being held at the popular Cassino track in Italy, most expected the home Italians to lead the charge, with Jilles Groskamp and Robert Pietsch expected to be podium challengers. But as the 45-minute final progressed, we were treated to a fantastic battle from which Huber proved that consistency is the key to winning the long nitro finals. However, we understand that Huber will not be present in Austria this week to defend his title, leaving the doors wide open!
